SPEAKING ASSIGNMENTS AND AWARDS

Evaluation forms for these new assignments can be found here. If you are new to evaluating, helpful tips for evaluating speeches can be found here.

The Foundation Certificate of Achievement is achieved by completing the five Foundation Level (F) speeches, as follows:

  1. Starting Your Journey
  2. Constructing a Speech
  3. Speaking with Conviction
  4. Using Gestures & Body Language
  5. Using Your Voice

Please note that these speeches have no pass/review element to them, they can be achieved immediately.

The next set of five speeches contribute towards the ASC Certificate of Achievement. These Advanced Level (A) speeches are as follows:

  1. Vocabulary and Word Pictures
  2. Storytelling and Narrative
  3. Using Humour
  4. Developing Audience Rapport
  5. The “Showpiece”

The final speech should allow the speaker to tie everything that they have learnt in the previous nine speeches together into one coherent package. This speech is normally evaluated by two people, one of which should be from a different club.

Once the speaker has achieved the certificate, he/she may pursue the Diploma in Public Speaking by completing five additional (D) assignments, three of which are mandatory.

  1. The Impromptu Speech
  2. Delivering a speech to a non-ASC Audience
  3. Using Presentation Aids

The other two speeches are chosen from the following:

  • Giving a Lecture
  • Making a Business Presentation
  • Speeches for Occasions
  • Prepared Speaking Without Notes

Once these are achieved, the speakers’ journey is complete!

The speaker should be encouraged to fill in a Record of Achievement to track their progress throughout their speaking life.

Public Speaking is a journey. It can be difficult at times, but it is so rewarding and very much worth the time and effort that is put in!
